15+ years repairing, modifying, using, designing, and building RVs.

Documentary portrait of Shawn Ford in a workshop with camper plans, tools, natural light, and a road-ready vehicle.
A brand shaped by real miles.
Before Kalowen became a camper brand, it was a set of lessons learned the hard way: through repairs, custom builds, long routes, bad weather, tight interiors, and thousands of conversations with people who wanted to travel better.
Founder Shawn Ford spent more than 15 years in the RV world repairing, modifying, using, designing, and building recreational vehicles. Over the last few years, he also crossed the United States, Mexico, and Central America three times by RV, traveling from Quebec to Panama and through places where comfort, weight, layout, heat, water, and reliability stop being abstract ideas.
Those miles created a simple question behind every Kalowen decision: would we leave for several months with this camper? If the answer is not yes, the design keeps improving.
Kalowen was born from that standard. Not from a desire to build another RV, but from the belief that a compact camper can be more honest, more durable, more useful, and better adapted to real North American travel.
The founder is not the hero of the story. The customer is. Kalowen’s job is to be the guide: to build the tool, remove the uncertainty, and help more people travel farther with fewer compromises.
The guide was a traveler first.
The founder story should build trust: Kalowen comes from real use, not from a catalog exercise.
Three long RV trips through the United States, Mexico, and Central America.
Thousands of road hours turned into a design standard: every inch and every kilogram must earn its place.
A mission to build modern truck campers that are practical, durable, and adapted to North American conditions.
What still guides the decisions.
Every decision should help the owner travel farther, stay longer, and live with less uncertainty.
Quality
It is better to solve the right problem than hide a compromise behind an option.
Simplicity
A good camper should remain understandable, serviceable, and ready to leave.
Durability
Materials must respect moisture, cold, and years of real ownership.
Service
